Experience Of A Lifetime

I am not a religious girl. I don't know how I feel about fate. And I certainly don't believe in horoscopes, tarot cards, or adding up a bunch of dates to determine my "numerology".

BUT

Every so often, the stars/moon/sun/toes of a buddha align & everything works out as it supposed to.

Case in point?

I get to eat with this guy tomorrow night:

Don't recognize him? Well then you must not like food.

His name is Grant Achatz. The genius chef who wins the Oscar of culinary awards every year. He has 2 restaurants in Chicago, Alinea & the recently opened, Next. Both are crazy expensive and offer once in a lifetime culinary experiences. At least that's what I've heard.

Here's the fate part: In January, Jeremy & I were supposed to go to Alinea to celebrate our ONE YEAR OF LOVE (he loves it when I say that). Various coincidences kept us from keeping our reservation.

Cut to Tuesday morning at 9:48 when one of my besties, NicoleBoyceWright, invited us to join her & her husband at Next tomorrow night. This is an especially huge coup as Next doesn't take reservations, instead, it's a lottery-based ticket system. Getting picked is all luck. Or fate. Or one big fat coincidence. To that end, had J & I made our reservation in January, we never would have been able to justify this second food-based expenditure. And this one is absolutely the best best best of the best.

The Next menu here in Chicago is based on the dishes served at El Bulli, the recently closed #1 restaurant in the world. There are 28 courses. A choreographed waitstaff. Never-been-done-before-drinks. It's a 4 hour experience.

Ferran Aldria and his staff at El Bulli (located off the coast of Spain).

Call it fate or luck or coincidence. Don't care. I'm just thrilled my moon is in the 7th house of 12th sun.

Aliens Among Us

Look, I realize this is not a new story. But when I saw this photo on gofugyourself.com (a brilliant site, btws), I had to comment.

I want to respect these 2 for their fashion prowess. Like their lines or not, they've clearly made the most of their infantile "acting" gig (what has Stephanie, Kimmy, or Uncle Joey done for me lately?)

But, I mean, come on.

Why so smug?  Feelin' glum about your recent partnership with JC Penny? Selling out is sad.

p.s. I think I found your birth mom.

Bachelor Recap: It's All Happening

Well Rose Lovers, we've made our way to Panama City (because nothing says romance like a politically charged canal). The "ladies" are all settled into their deluxe suite when Ben & his horrendous hair drop off the first date card...

Date 1: "This Could Be The Date That Changes The Rest Of My Life" - Kacie B.
Bachelor Buffoon & Kacie Baton Twirler helicopter off to their very own "Lost". If only that crazy Aussie guy was there to not push the button (if you watched "Lost", this joke killed. If you didn't, sor.)

"Teamwork is a big part of a relationship. Today is a good example of whether or not we'd be able to work together in the future." - Ben

Yes, most couples find themselves stranded on a deserted island with only a stuffed monkey, a bag of Charleston Chews, and a camera crew.

"I'm kinda looking forward to diving in deep tonight." HEYOHHHHHHHHHHH

Kacie B-for-Baton chooses to share her eating disorder with Ben over dinner. This sealed the deal for Ben. He rationalizes that any girl that can keep herself from eating can put up with looking at his humidity-induced dreadlocked hair without puking.

Closing thought: "On a scale from 1 to wonderful, today was fantastic." Thanks Kacie.

Date 2: Who Wears Short Shorts

The "ladies" follow Ben to a dirty river (where oddly, Courtney does not bring up skinny dipping), for some rainy jungle fun.

The ridiculous group of not-famous people invade an "unsuspecting" village of people who just happen to have beaded bathing necklaces & loin cloths for the group.

Sluts Mcgee decides to go braless so a block of pixels (and Ben's drool) follow her around for the entire segment.

The rest of the prudes who chose not to flash America 2 weeks in row all spent the day dancing with the natives & talking about Sluts M instead of throwing themselves at Bachelor Buffoon. Somebody sure is "winning".

After making out with all of the girls (while staring at Catalog Model (aka Sluts McGee) looming in her bikini in the background), he decides to give the rose to Lindzi, the girl that I'd like to believe is too smart for this shitshow, but then I remember that she signed up for it.

Catalog Model, jilted by not receiving the date rose, invites Ben to her room for a little "quiet time", but he doesn't show up. This face ensues:

Date 3: Once Upon A Time There Was A Guy On A Date With Two Girls He Didn't Like

Ben picks up Man Voice & the Lounge Professional for a 2-1 salsa date. This oughta be underwhelming.

The Zumba teacher shows up to torture these 2, Dancing With The Stars style.

Poor Man Voice is reliving her junior high dance days, takin' it all in from the sidelines. Blakeley (Lounge Professional) is pulling her various best Catalog Model moves, but it's too little, too late.

Keeping the junior high theme alive, Blakeley shares the Slam Book she created for Ben, full of magazine cut outs of words and images of their pretend future life. Let me be clear: She made him a scrap folder decorated with kidnapper magazine cut outs.

Cut to a gratuitous shot of stray cat walking past her LOS (Limo Of Sadness). Peace out Blakeley. Get yourself some therapy. A 34-year-old woman who makes magazine collages is likely in need of a little counseling.

UH-OH CHRIS HARRISON HAS A SURPRISE FOR THE BLONDE GIRL WE'VE NEVER HEARD SPEAK:

What did Casey do? She had the GAUL to come onto this show having feelings for an ex-boyfriend.

So wait. You mean to tell me that someone on a reality dating show might be using the platform to get back at someone? Kinda like a game? I. Am. Floored.

Ben decided to take advantage of this easy out, sending the blonde who barely spoke home, pre-rose ceremony. Hey Casey, free tip: Contrary to popular belief, going on a reality show to get over someone is not a solid plan. Turns out your problems will follow you all the way to Panama City.

The Finale: See Yah Jamie, Thanks For The Memories

After the most dramatic reveal ever, the Rose Ceremony feels a bit anticlimactic. All of the girls feel the need to OPEN up about their CONNECTION in a last ditch effort not to be eliminated.

Guess what? They're all "falling". Not down, in love.

Catalog Courtney's take: "I feel like I might be going home. Just kidding." She's awesome.

"I need to show him I am fun and sexy and I want to please him." - Jamie single-handedly clobbering years of Gloria Steinam's work while straddling him on a bench.

I am going to show him how to kiss and it's going to be really natural.

Oh Prudes McGee. You're a day late and ho-bag short. Catalog Model & Lounge Professional already cornered that market. Thank you, however, for providing America with one of the most unintentionally hilarious moments in Bachelor history.

Until next week, when the Buffoon takes us to Belize where very little actual drama will ensue.

Weekend Roundup: SUPER All Around

Another good one for the books...

Dinner at Rustic House...Freshly highlighted hair...Dinner with old favorites...Superbowl Moscow Mules...

As far as the actual Superbowl Sunday festivities, here are my top 5 thoughts:

1) If the commercials are any indication, dogs are the new humans.
2) I was disappointed in the lack of gratuitous Giselle cutaways.
3) Madonna's halftime show was redeemed by "Like A Prayer". The rest of it was like watching a large scale cheerleader tryout. Note: She would not have made the team.
4) Worst use of a celebrity: John Stamos in a Greek yogurt spot.
5) This was the best spot, by far. Beautifully written.

"Trendy Top" - This Is Real

From the same clever folks who brought you Pajama Jeans (because who doesn't want to sleep, eat, shop, travel, ride bikes, clean, jog, and snuggle in the same pair of stretchy pants?) comes another gem of an invention for America's laziest consumer.

I bring you, "The Trendy Top":

In lieu of wearing pants that fit or a shirt that doesn't cut of your circulation, you can now buy color-coded ace bandages that conveniently slip right over your jeans and under your too-tight t-shirt. No more strings or grannies sticking out of your pants while you're doing every day things like sitting. Or doing back hand springs (please watch the video below for more examples of how useful this product can be).

Here are a couple wacky alternatives to The Trendy Top: Eat less. Buy clothes that fit. Invest in some low rise undies. There will never, ever be anything good (or "trendy") about wearing your spanx ON TOP OF your pants.

Way to go, America!

Films That Might Actually Be Worth Seeing

If the 2011 Oscar noms are any indication, we were served up a lot of average entertainment last year.

"The Descendants" is the best picture of the year?

Watching this movie was a decent way to spend 2 hours. But so is watching Lifetime.

Or wait, "The Artist"? The silent film I cannot drag myself to see? The one that everyone is telling me I have to LOVE, in the same way I'm supposed to LOVE quinoa and cleanses.

I will rent you so that I can multi-task while you're on in the background.

Much like my search for interesting clothes and music, I decided to take my search abroad to see what the Best Foreign Films are all about. These 2 look promising. As soon as they open IN MY MAJOR METROPOLIS, I will provide a review.

"The Kid With A Bike"

"A Separation"

Don't get me wrong, I cannot wait for The Oscars. I expect it to underwhelm just like every award show has so far this season. Here's hoping Billy says something stupid and/or someone shows up dress like a swan.

31 Days Down, 332 To Go

I am in no way wishing 2012 away - so far I'm liking what the Mayan Calendar's finale performance is serving up.

In the spirit of enjoying every day, here are the top 5 things I'm looking forward to in February:

1) The finale of The Bachelor. Yep, I said it. It's the best comedy ABC has to offer.

2) Dinner with my LOVER on Feb 11. Valentines Day is lame. Until you can use it as an excuse to go out for a fancy dinner. Get excited J.Smalls.

3) February 20th. Because we have the day off. In honor of Presidents. Or a president. No clue.

4) Second City on February 25. Haven't been to see those crazy kids for years. Sure hope it's not underwhelming.

5) And last, but not least, February 29th. Why? Because it's an extra day. And that's special. Just cause.
